John Andress Wins $800,000 in the SHRPO High Roller

Aug 18, 2017

A high roller with a buy-in of $25,500 ended just right after the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Main Event. 119 players took part in the competition, the prize fund of which exceeded the guarantee by 50% amounting to almost $3 million. Many regulars of expensive events were knocked out before the bubble. Jason Mercier, Nick Petrangelo, Doug Polk, and Bryn Kenney appeared in this list. Among the 16 left players there also were top-level pros. Rainer Kempe, Marvin Rettenmaier, Chance Kornuth and Anthony Spinella received their payments.

Thomas Marchese was the main star at the final table (6-max), but the short stack did not allow him to rise above the 5th place. A legendary online player Chris Big Huni Hunichen, who has been periodically making a fuss in live events, was knocked out from the competition just after Tom. John Andress demonstrated how to play with a short stack. At the time the bubble burst out John had about 1 bb, but he miraculously returned to the game and got to the finals. He started the final heads-up against Mike Leah with a weakness. However, in several hours of intense heads-up John managed to tip the scales in his favour winning the biggest prize in the whole career.
